Concept art for the multiplayer game has been produced, and the franchise has sold over 37 million sales.
A huge 2023 for The Last of Us is possible.
Concept art for the next multiplayer game was published by developer Naughty Dog just before the premiere of the HBO series based on the first game. And, naturally, the visuals are stunning. Furthermore, insane. Still, the majority of it is astounding.
Currently, we have the following information about future content for The Last of Us:
The multiplayer concept image features a luxurious cruise ship.
On Tuesday, in honor of the franchise's 10-year anniversary, Naughty Dog (who originally released the game in 2013) published a photo of the upcoming multiplayer game's concept art on their blog (more on that in a bit).
The artwork depicts a cruise ship that has ran aground in the middle of a city and has been there for some time, as seen by the wrecked buses and buildings all around it. Two people may be seen making their way toward the ship.
The game "is shaping up to be a fresh, new experience from our studio, but one anchored in Naughty Dog's love for providing fantastic stories, characters, and gameplay," said Neil Druckmann, co-president of Naughty Dog.
This is Naughty Dog's second piece of concept art for the multiplayer game.
The initial concept art was shown in June of last year, and it featured two players with weapons, perched on a rooftop with a view of a destroyed city and a suspension bridge in the distance.
Factions was a multiplayer feature in the original game that split players into two opposing factions, Hunters and Fireflies. (The new game is being called Factions by many, after the 2013 multiplayer game of the same name, though Naughty Dog hasn't officially called it that.) Keeping a small band of survivors alive was the objective.
In 2023, the series will mark its 10th year in production.
Incredible as it may seem, The Last of Us first appeared in June 2013 for the PlayStation 3. Instantly a hit with reviewers and players alike, the game was praised for its engaging story, satisfying gameplay, and notably its horrifying depiction of a devastated Earth populated by mutated, zombie-like humanity.
Series protagonists Joel (a man who lost his daughter decades previously to a fatal fungus that has decimated the United States) and Ellie (a teenager who is resistant to the virus) embark on a trip together. As Joel tries to get Ellie to the Fireflies, a group working on a cure, they experience a series of terrifying incidents.
Over 37 million copies of The Last of Us games have been sold.
Druckmann stated in his blog post that as of December 2022, The Last of Us series has sold over 37 million copies.
Besides 2020's Part II, the series also contains 2014's The Last of Us Remastered for PlayStation 4 and the Left Behind expansion pack of the same year.
In 2022, the PS5 version of The Last of Us: Part I was released. In March, it will be available on Windows PC.
To have so many of you experience and appreciate Joel and Ellie and the rest of our cast is what propels the entire company forward, Druckmann wrote.
The premiere date for HBO's new series is January 15.
This is all occurring as the premiere of HBO's live-action adaptation of the game approaches.
The Last of Us, starring Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna, and Anna Torv, premieres on January 15.
